Nanovaccine Development for Cocaine Addiction: Immune Response and Brain Behaviour
نویسنده
چکیده
Currently, there are no vaccines to fight against cocaine addiction for use in humans. Clinical trials for a few competitor antibodies are in different stages and a protected and viable immunization is sought after before the end of 2016.

Impaired insight in cocaine addiction: laboratory evidence and effects on cocaine-seeking behaviour.
Neuropsychiatric disorders are often characterized by impaired insight into behaviour. Such an insight deficit has been suggested, but never directly tested, in drug addiction. Here we tested for the first time this impaired insight hypothesis in drug addiction, and examined its potential association with drug-seeking behaviour. We also tested potential modulation of these effects by cocaine ur...

The faster drugs of abuse reach the brain, the more addictive they can be. It is not known why this is. Environmental stimuli associated with drugs can promote the development and persistence of addiction by invigorating and precipitating drug-seeking behaviour. We determined, therefore, whether cues associated with the self-administration of rapidly delivered cocaine (injected intravenously ov...
متن کاملImproved proliferation of antigen-specific cytolytic T lymphocytes using a multimodal nanovaccine
The present study investigated the immunoenhancing property of our newly designed nanovaccine, that is, its ability to induce antigen-specific immunity. This study also evaluated the synergistic effect of a novel compound PBS-44, an α-galactosylceramide analog, in boosting the immune response induced by our nanovaccine. The nanovaccine was prepared by encapsulating ovalbumin (ova) and an adjuva...
متن کاملNeurobiology of cocaine addiction: implications for new pharmacotherapy.
The development of pharmacotherapies for cocaine addiction has been disappointingly slow. However, new neurobiological knowledge of how the brain is changed by chronic pharmacological insult with cocaine is revealing novel targets for drug development. Certain drugs currently being tested in clinical trials tap into the underlying cocaine-induced neuroplasticity, including drugs promoting GABA ...
متن کاملCREB-mediated alterations in the amygdala transcriptome: coordinated regulation of immune response genes following cocaine.
The neuronal circuitry underlying stress- and drug-induced reinstatement of cocaine-seeking has been relatively well characterized; however, less is known regarding the long-term molecular changes following cocaine administration that may promote future reinstatement. The transcription factor cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) is necessary for stress- but not cocaine-induced reinstate...
